Presented by South Side Projections and the Reva and David Logan Center for the Arts

For this month’s Logan Center Family Saturday theme of Animation and Imagination, South Side Projections is showcasing a few of the many different ways to make an animated film. From the distant past, we have stop-motion pioneer Wladyslaw Starewicz’s The Frogs Who Wanted a King (1922, 9 min.), Lotte Reiniger’s silhouette film Cinderella (1922, 12 min.), and claymation master Ray Harryhausen’s Little Red Riding Hood (1949, 9 min.). In between will be a trio of more recent films, including Will Rose’s silhouette-like The Goat Herder and His Lots and Lots and Lots of Goats (2012, 7 min.); Robert Castillo’s The Yellow Balloon (2016, 3 min.), which shows Castillo drawing each frame; and Jo Dery’s How Birds Got Their Song (2009, 4 min.), made in collaboration with her Native American students. Total program time: 40 minutes.
